Looking toward the future means envisioning smarter cities, more sustainable communities, and new ways of growing that respect the environment. At Ciudad Nya, we believe urban development should not only meet today’s needs—it should also anticipate tomorrow’s challenges.
That vision gave rise to NUMU, the photovoltaic solar park currently under construction within Ciudad Nya. Once completed, it will become the largest solar park in Guanacaste Province. More than an energy infrastructure project, NUMU represents a long-term commitment to innovation, sustainability, and responsible development in Costa Rica.
A Name That Honors Guanacaste’s Heritage
NUMU means “sun” in the Chorotega language.
The name was chosen with intention. It pays tribute to Guanacaste’s ancestral heritage and to the Indigenous communities that understood the importance of living in harmony with nature long before sustainability became a global priority.
Just as the sun has sustained life in this region for centuries, it is now becoming a source of clean energy that will help power Costa Rica’s future.
The Largest Solar Park in Guanacaste
NUMU is being developed on a 32-hectare site within Ciudad Nya in Liberia, backed by an investment of approximately $24 million USD.
Scheduled to begin operations in the fourth quarter of 2026, the solar park will have an installed capacity of 29.2 MW, generating enough renewable electricity to power the equivalent of approximately 15,000 Costa Rican homes.
The project marks an important step toward strengthening the country’s energy matrix through a reliable, efficient, and renewable long-term energy source.

Technology That Follows the Sun
One of NUMU’s most innovative features is its use of intelligent solar tracking technology.
Unlike conventional photovoltaic installations, these tracking systems allow the panels to follow the sun’s movement throughout the day—much like a sunflower. By continuously optimizing their position, the panels can increase energy production by up to 20%, maximizing one of Guanacaste’s most abundant natural resources.
This technology positions NUMU among the most advanced solar power facilities in Costa Rica.
Clean Energy for Thousands of Families
NUMU is being developed by Genera Power, a subsidiary of Genera Holdings, and will operate under a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Costa Rican Electricity Institute (ICE).
This long-term agreement ensures that the energy generated by the park will be supplied directly to Costa Rica’s national electric grid, strengthening the country’s renewable energy production while supporting long-term energy reliability.
Every solar panel installed represents an investment in a cleaner, more efficient future with lower carbon emissions.

A City That Generates Energy to Power the Future
Ciudad Nya was conceived as an integrated community where infrastructure, innovation, nature, and economic development move forward together.
The construction of NUMU reflects that vision. It is not simply about incorporating renewable energy—it is about integrating solutions that create long-term value, generate opportunities for the region, and promote more responsible growth.
Alongside the Crystal Lagoon, future amenities, residential neighborhoods, and commercial districts, NUMU is part of a much broader vision: creating a city designed for generations to come.
A Future Powered by the Sun
Building more sustainable cities requires decisions that look beyond the present. NUMU is one of those decisions.
Every milestone in its construction brings Ciudad Nya one step closer to becoming a community where technological innovation and environmental stewardship work hand in hand toward a shared purpose.
At Ciudad Nya, we believe the future of development is powered by clean energy.
And today, that future is already taking shape under the sun of Guanacaste.
